Folk contemporaries Bill Morrissey and Greg Brown have crafted
careers out of deep, unique voices and penetrating songwriting
skills. But with the exception of Brown's tribute to Morrissey,
"Fishing With Bill," all of the songs here are covers that
they've played together in the past for their own amusement. The
material touches upon blues (Willie Dixon's "Little Red
Rooster"), rock (the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What
You Want"), country (Hank Williams's "I'll Never Get Out of This
World Alive"), folk (Ferron's "Ain't Life a Brook"), and
traditional tunes ("He Was a Friend of Mine"). Both performers
sing and play acoustic guitar, Morrissey adds slide guitar and
harmonica, and rhythm players are featured on a few tunes. The
ambiance is loose throughout.
